Feral Kids

2008.01.10 — It's been almost a year since the last update but things are still progressing. We're called Feral Kids. We recorded a 4 song demo with Ted Comerford and mixed it with Mitch Easter. Taking photos soon with Shervin Lainez. Check out the songs at our new MySpace page: myspace.com/feralkidsband

2007.01.31

The name 'The Close Talkers' may not stick, because it's apparently too Seinfeldy...although it's possible, but unlikely, that we might still use that name on our first show, March 7th, at The Red and the Black. Also, we have tentatively penciled in April 2-9th for a recording with producer Ted Comerford at Low Watt recording. It's hair time.

2007.01.18

Our new band is probably going to be called The Close Talkers. Final Lineup is Barclay Saul (vox/keys/guitar); Matt Rehfuss (vox/drums/guitar/keys); Kush el-Amin (bass); Ben Ritter (vox/drums/guitar/keys); Nicki Gonzalez (vox/keys/percussion). Hopefully some other friends will record or sit in from time to time. Just procured www.theclosetalkers.com; look for us there. We are preparing for a studio recording tentatively scheduled for April. Our first show is March 7th at The Red and the Black...Details to follow. We love you!

New Project

2006.11.28 — Should the band be called "The Basements" or "The Hot Flashes"? Barc and Matt are rocking that new project we've been talking about for so long, and things are starting to take shape. Ben Ritter, ex drummer of Daddy is in the band now, playing guitar, keys, drums, and vocals, and Kush rocks with us when he's not playing with the French Kicks...Check this site for some of our new sounds soon. We've been working with some really talented people and we can't wait for everyone to hear the new material.

Atom and his wife Molly just had a baby. Congrats!

The Unreleased Album

2005.12.02 — We've been getting requests to post MP3s from the album we were working on when we broke up. Presented below are some of those tracks, recorded in our home studio in 2004 and early 2005. Keep in mind these are incomplete and flawed in myriad ways. That said, each one is worth checking out, so enjoy.

Downloads
  1. Down — (muddy but listenable)
  2. Look At the Sun — (sounds fine, check it out)
  3. Under Control - No Vox — (sounds really good but there are no lead vocals there except for a reverb track)
  4. Under Control — (earlier, muddy mix, w/vox)
  5. Washington DC — (later mixes of this had thicker guitars. also the end of this was never finished)
  6. Snake — (half of us loved this song, half hated it - early mix)
  7. Missionary — (an early mix and the end needed to be re-recorded - but worth listening to)
  8. New Wave — (this song is flawed in many ways but worth checking out!)
  9. Always Against Me - No Vox — (slightly distorted mix without vocals - check out Atom's sound in the outro)
  10. Always Against Me - Scratch Vox - Distorted — (highly distorted and fatiguing early mix but with a quiet scratch vocal melody by Barclay)
  11. Fighting for Air— (this one could be better, but what couldn't, right? i know right? serious.)
  12. Oh No — (download this. sounds pretty good overall)
  13. Killer on the Loose — (a bit distorted in some ways, but okay. the end was never finished.)
  14. R-O-C-K-M...A-S-T-E-R — (nice in-your-face mix. no vocals were ever recorded. listen to the awesome outro!)

An update on what the old rockmasters are up to: Kush is gigging with a couple different bands and keeping busy. Barc and Matt are trying to put together a new project, more on that later. Matt's been gigging and recording with some other bands too. Atom's been having a great time in Japan since August; he'll be there for a while. Tom is working for a financial firm. And Joey...well there was no Joey.

Please let us know what you think about these tracks by posting a message on the message board.

- Matt
